Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease

Obesity is one of the major risk factors for heart disease and a host of other serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and cancer.

Both terms describe ranges of weight that are greater than what is generally considered healthy for a given height. For adults, overweight and obesity ranges are determined by using weight and height to calculate a number called the body mass index or BMI. To calculate BMI, divide your weight by the square of your height.

However, BMI is just one indicator of potential health risks associated with being overweight or obese. Because abdominal - at is a predictor of risk for obesity, related diseases, doctors also look at waist circumference Apple-shaped people or those whose weight is concentrated around their waist maybe at greater risk of developing heart disease, diabetes or cancer rather than people of the same weight who are pear-shaped or those who carry their weight in their hips and bottoms.

Doctors also look at other risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, high blood sugar levels and physical inactivity.

People who are overweight are two times more likely to have high blood pressure than those who are not. Overweight people often have very high blood levels of cholesterol that can lead to heart disease. Being overweight also contributes to angina (chest pain caused by decreased oxygen to the heart) and sudden death from heart disease or stroke without any signs and symptoms.

Losing as little as 10% of your weight can reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke. Lasting weight loss, however, requires a change in lifestyle. Adopt a healthy, lower calorie eating plan, and be more physically active. Try to do at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity most, if not all days of the week. This includes brisk walking, light weightlifting or even house cleaning or gardening. If you need to divide the 30 minutes into shorter period of at least 10 minutes each.

Aim to lose no more than 1/2 to 2 pounds per week. If you have a lot of weight to lose, ask your doctor, a registered dietitian or qualified nutritionist for professional advice.

Regain your confidence! Stop losing your hair.

For most women, losing hair is like losing vibrancy, self-confidence and self-esteem. And this could lead to depression, anxiety and feelings of inferiority.

Excessive stress, genes or too much extreme styling methods could cause women's hairloss. To stop falling and thinning, one needs the right treatment.

I fought thinning hair as soon as I experienced its early signs. Thinning hair makes me look older. I didn't want that to happen to me. When I noticed lots of hair on my pillow and my hair started to thin out, I immediately bought thickening shampoos. But I was disappointed. They didn't stop my problem. Good thing, I discovered the right remedy for my hair. After a course of treatments, my hair regained its original volume. It's even softer and even more lustrous. I could style it any way I want it!

My stomach aches after drinking 2 glasses of softdrinks.

I really felt bad today. My stomach is aching but I just force my self to write for the hope that through expressing how I feel, it will lessen the pain. Nevertheless, I need to write.

When we had our lunch, all in the table are a plate of rice, a bowl of vegetable (viand) and a bottle of soft drink. In order to quench my thirst, upon arriving from the Internet cafe, I drank 2 glasses of soft drink the I start eating 2 cups of rice and much of the viand. I was thinking that everything is fine not until I have eaten my lunch. I can clearly feel that my stomach is gradually aching. Now, I suffer a lot of pain in my stomach. This is really a serious ache.

I am just wondering why drinking 2 glasses of soft drink makes me feel really weak.

Teeth Whiten?

I admit that I have the poor smile because of my teeth. It is not because my teeth are not aligned but because they are yellow (not too yellow). But my teacher in Science told us that yellow teeth are the strongest teeth. I would probably believe her for making such a remark but no matter what information that is, it saddens me. My friends recognize my "yellow" teeth (not knowing that they are strong even they are yellow). This intimidates me. I feel outcasted and conscious. I know they have the perfect white teeth and can glowfully smile to the crowds. Me, too little to show off. I can't even smile publicly. Much more, I prefer to hide my smile when a friend told me about the problem of my teeth. Her warn awares me not to confidently show my teeth...:-(! Of course, I need to talk but maybe what she meant is that I should be aware of what other people might say if I will talk in expose. Huh...! So sad why I have the "yellow" teeth. Nevertheless, I will find ways to have them whitten. It really downs me!

Pedicuring

Our feet needs a lot of care. Just like we put make-up into our face, we also need to color our toenails. One way to best make our feet attractive if through pedicuring.

I am more conscious of myself especially to my physical health. That is why, I am always making sure considering the beauty of my feet.

I remove old nail polish if cotton, sponge the surface of the toenail with a downward, rotary movement. I file my toenail with a nail file or an emery board starting from the little toenail, following the stroke from corner to center to prevent nail splitting. I soften dead cuticle with a cuticle remover. I push back dead cuticle gently with a pusher. I trim the dead cuticle with a nipper and cut the cuticle in a single segment. Furthermore, I clean under the free sedge with an orangewood stick tipped with a piece of cotton. I brush the toenails in a downward movement. I dry my feet and nails with a towel. I apply the base coat quickly, starting from the center of the nail and going towards the sides, apply liquid nail polish, apply the top coat, following the same stroke in applying base and liquid polish. And lastly, I remove excess polish around the nail with an orangewood stick tipped with a piece of cotton, dipped in acetone.

Pedicuring my feet takes a lot of time. But all is worth it!
